Maternal-fetal medicine means pregnancy monitoring. We are making sure you’ll have a healthy baby!
What are the most common investigations?
The obstetric consultation is a gynaecological check-up for pregnant women. This is the first investigation you should have after you have a positive pregnancy test.
During this first consultation, your doctor will recommend the tests and imaging investigations during your pregnancy.
In the second trimester, most fetal organs can be visceralised. Your maternal-fetal medicine doctor will do a morpho-fetal ultrasound at 20 weeks. During the investigation, the doctor makes sure that:
• the placenta is healthy and attached normally;
• the baby is growing properly.
You can see the baby’s heartbeat and movement of the body, arms and legs. You can find out if it’s a boy or a girl.
This ultrasound scan is called placental morphology ultrasound. The investigation determines the degree of maturation of the placenta and the amount of amniotic fluid. The 3rd trimester ultrasound allows optimal morphological analysis of the fetal organs.
Laboratory tests recommended in pregnancy – we are reffering to all the laboratory investigations necessary for pregnant women, and the genetic investigations of the fetus.
